AREAS OF EXPERTISE:
Marian has many years of experience in a wide range of law as it affects the individual in more recent years including family law, elderly clients, curatorships, wills and probate, property and conveyancing. Marian has also experience of criminal work, estate, personal injury and general litigation. She is therefore in a unique position of having a broad overview of areas of law which is of considerable assistance when they overlap.
Marian was born in Jersey, graduated in law from Leicester University, was called to the English Bar (Middle Temple) in 1975 and then to the Jersey Bar in March 1977.
She has represented many clients in landmark family law cases dealing generally with financial issues and in significant settlements reached between lawyers or with the assistance of mediation
Marian also spent several years as Vice Chairman of the Social Security Tribunal
Over the years she has sat on several States of Jersey working parties on changes to the Matrimonial Causes Law, Children Law and the law in relation to Tutelles. She also sat on a States committee looking into equal opportunities.
Marian is a former Chair of the Jersey Family Law Association, the Jersey Law Society subcommittee on family law, and Family Mediation Jersey. She also spent many years as Vice Chair of Relate.
Publications include Jersey Law Review and several articles in the Jersey Evening Post. She has also lectured at several family law conferences and tutorials in the Island.
